This side hustle is extremely easy and other tools that you’ll be needing a completely free to sign up for.

All you need to get started is a free Canva account and a free KDP account.

Thousands of other people are making thousands of dollars in Canva passive income daily. You can say for a fact that Canva and Amazon KDP are a power combo.

This side hustle is so beginner-friendly and today I’m going to walk you through every step of the way.

What is Canva?

Canva is one of the best graphic design tools available to beginners.

This means you no longer need to learn complex design techniques in Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to call yourself a graphics designer.

Canva has a huge library of Graphics templates for almost any design need and all you need to do is search up their design database to find what you’re looking for.

For today’s side hustle, we will be using Canva to create low-content books.

Low-content books are simply books that have low content literally.

Unlike traditional books filled with text, these kinds of books are basically filled with images and graphics.

These kinds of books are easy to create using Canva and Amazon KDP and the possibilities are endless.

There are so many profitable low-content book ideas that you can create with Canva to make a lot of money and they include:

  • Trackers
  • Planners
  • Colouring Books
  • Storybooks
  • Log books
  • Composition books
  • Sketchbooks

Below are some examples of successful book authors already making money with Low content books.

This unicorn coloring book on Amazon has 20,889 reviews on just this one book.

Before we do a rough calculation, keep in mind that Studies have shown that only 38% of buyers leave reviews on Amazon.

That’s okay though because working with 20,889 sales for $4.99 and a 70% commission rate on Amazon, this single book has made well over $72,965

What is Amazon KDP?

Amazon KDP on the other hand is a huge platform owned by Amazon that allows authors and creators to independently self-published books that can show up on Amazon’s huge Marketplace.

In simpler terms, KDP allows you to upload books to Amazon KDP, fix your prices, and have them show up on Amazon’s marketplace with billions of monthly visitors.

The best part, this platform is completely free and available worldwide.

How To Make Money With Canva and Amazon KDP

1. Choose a Niche for your low-content book

This is the most important step in your book publishing Journey.

Want to know what Bestselling books have in common?

A Specific Niche.

Most low-content books are specifically targeted toward a particular group of people.

It is therefore so easy to say that the riches are in the niches.

Before you even think about creating your low-content book, you need the first think about the specific niche or demographic you’ll be creating your book for.

Thankfully, there is an endless list of possible niches for low-content books.

Below are some examples of profitable Low content book niches for KDP.

You don’t have to restrict yourself to a single Niche on Canva and Amazon KDP because Amazon basically allows you to publish a variety of niches.

So for a start, pick 1-5 niches that you feel comfortable creating books around and get right to step two.

2. Choose the type of low-content book you’d want to create

In this step, you’re going to be picking a particular type of low-content book to create.

This should be easy because most niches have specific types of low-content books that are more common than others.

For example in the health and fitness niche, the more common low-content books include:

  • Recipe book
  • Sleeping logbook
  • Water tracker
  • Workout tracker
  • Running Logbook

On the other hand in the Children’s niche, some common low-content books include:

  • Storybooks
  • Coloring book
  • Activity book
  • Doodle book
  • Tracing book

So the heavy lifting with self-publishing low-content books is in picking the right niche, once you’ve picked the perfect niche, it’s almost a smooth walk down from there.

3. Do your keyword research

Most people skip this step and this can be very detrimental to the success of your self-publishing journey.

Just like you, several other low-content book publishers are also finding niches and listing out possible book ideas for each of these niches.

This means more competition for your book.

To sift through this competition, you are going to have through this competition, you’re going to have to do your research to find low-content book titles and ideas that have decent search volume but very low competition.

Thankfully, I have just the tools you need.

For starters, there are only two metrics you need to keep in mind during your keyword research.

Search Volume:

I suggest sticking with book titles with more than 100 searches. The more searches a keyword gets, the better.

To ascertain the search volume of your given keyword or book title, there are 2 free tools I highly recommend.

Google Keyword Planner and Keywordtool.io.

Using Google’s Keyword Planner, you can type in your given keyword and you’ll be prompted with the search volume of that given keyword.

You will also get a long list of similar keywords for your titles, these keywords can be used as tags for your book when it comes time to upload your book.

Competition:

The search volume of your keyword is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to choosing the perfect keyword.

You need to make sure there is healthy competition in this market and a high possibility of your new book outranking others and getting sales from day 1.

To ascertain the competition of a book title, I used Amazon’s own search results.

This is easy.

Simply type in the given keyword onto the search bar on Amazon and check the number of results that appear.

The more results on Amazon for a given keyword, the higher the competition and the harder it’ll be to get to the top of the search results to get those eyeballs to your books.

For starters, I highly recommend sticking with keywords with more than 100 searches per month and less than 1000 search results on Amazon.

4. Gather your tools and resources

So perfect! We have our idea and research-driven titles that are actually going to help us get those sweet sales and traffic to our books.

Now, it’s time to get the book ready.

Before you head over to Canva to pour out those creative juices, I need you to do me a favor.

Get your toolbox ready.

Depending on the type of low-content book you plan on creating, your toolbox is going to look a bit different.

I’ll try to keep things simple.

We all know that your book is basically a combination of different interiors and graphics in a Pdf uploaded to Amazon.

Well obviously, you going to need to gather high-quality Interiors for your book.

Remember that quality is key for making a good impression and subsequently getting those sweet reviews that boost your ranking on Amazon.

While you can totally get away with using free Interiors from Canva’s template Library, I do not recommend this method.

Canva has a billion active users and even if just a tiny percent of those people use their graphics and templates for book creation and design sourcing, that still a million author you’d have to compete with in quality.

You need a more untapped way to get resources for your books.

That’s where Creative Fabrica comes in.

You may or may not have heard about this tool but it is a goldmine for creating low-content books on Amazon KDP.

There’s an endless library of high-quality graphics and KDP Interiors made by professional designers all with creative and commercial use licenses for your KDP book.

Think about any book in the world and it’s on Creative Fabrica.

So for example, I tried finding an interior graphic for a PODCAST PLANNER I was planning on Creating to sell on KDP.

This interior file has 120 pages in the right dimensions and is can be uploaded as-is to Amazon KDP.

You might get bothered about copyright and duplicate content issues but trust me, you shouldn’t.

Just as long as you have a unique book cover, title, and description, your book will be counted as original by the Amazon review team. (Talking from experience)

Moreso, this file also came with different PNG files that I could upload onto Canva, mix & match to create an entirely new PODCAST PLANNER.

You get the drill.

Ok, maybe, you want to create coloring books for adults, well Creative Fabrica can help as well.

Here’s a complete SVG bundle for a UNICORN COLORING Book. All you need to do is create a book on Canva with these files and you’re good to go.

5. Create your low-content book on Canva

Once you have your interiors and graphics, you need to start creating your books.

Trust me, this is so easy.

I recommend starting on a blank canvas with specific dimensions for the type of book you want to create.

Then start uploading your interior and graphic elements.

If you ever bought a low-content book like a planner, for example, you know it’s basically the same pages over and over again.

Sure, there might be a break in trend between pages you’re basically duplicating the same interior into various other pages.

So, to 10x your creation workflow, place the main interior of your book unto a page and duplicate the page over and again.

Remember to add other valuable pages to add some hype around your book.

For example, if you are creating a weight loss tracker, alongside the main tracker interior, you might also have to add

Trust me, Creative Fabrica is your best friend for this.

Once you have a complete PDF file with all your Interiors, download the file as a PDF in print quality.

Before we go on to upload your book on Amazon KDP, you’re going to need to create your book cover.

If you’ve tried this side hustle before, you know this is one of the most strenuous parts of creating your book.

You need to get the bleed and dimensions right, make sure it’s high resolution, and look out for elements that exceed the borderline.

That’s a lot of work you might say.

So I narrowed down everything you need to do into 5 simple steps.

  • Upload this file onto Canva

  • Change the background color and graphics to suit your theme.

You can also source aesthetic graphics for your book cover from Creative Fabrica or outsource the entire cover creation process.

Remember, buyers judge will always judge your book by its cover.

6. Upload your low content on KDP

This step should be the easiest of all.

You will need to create your account and set up your payment and tax information, so you can receive your earnings.

Once you have your KDP account all set up and ready.

Head over to your dashboard and add a new book on KDP.

You will be taken through three steps, all asking for different important details about your book.

The various steps of this book would have to make sure you have all these details ready to add to your book.

Once you have the upload boxes all ticked off and have set your desired prices and commission rate, select publish to upload your book.

Within 1-3 days, the KDP review team will scrutinize your book and its quality to see whether it’s a good fit for their platform.

This shouldn’t be a problem if you used high-quality interiors and graphics for your book.

Once your book is approved for publishing, it will be listed on Amazon for sale and will be available for purchase by the billions of monthly visitors Amazon gets every month.

If you did your keyword research right, you should start getting sales in about a month or two and as you continue to add more books, should become a reliable source of income for you in no time.
