What is Print on Demand with Printify and Canva?
Print-on-demand is a unique business model that allows beginners to get a piece of the huge cake in the e-commerce industry at almost no cost.
As Explained above, you will be creating designs and selling them through print providers basically handling all the product inventory and shipping for you.
So basically the only job is creating artwork And because of how much work these print providers have to do on your behalf, they basically take a huge cut of your profit.
That’s okay because You can call out for that with the time freedom you’d gain in return Which can be reinvested into creating even more designs.
What is Printify?
There are so many print-on-demand platforms you could try out to start this business, why Printify?
Printify is completely free to get started with and has a beginner-friendly user interface.
Their customer service is to die for and it integrates with so many huge marketplaces and store builders.
Quickly, Let’s get one thing straight.
Printify is a print provider and not necessarily a store builder.
You’re going to need to create your print-on-demand store somewhere else and integrate it with Printify.
Trust me, this is so easy to do.
You could either choose to own your own standalone store or leverage already existing marketplaces.
Heck, you could even consider starting both.
Printify offers a huge shelf of products You could choose from for your artwork. from stickers to t-shirts, art prints and even jewelry.
You could either choose to design every one of those products or Start a product-specific store to build your brand around
How To Use Printify and Canva for Print on Demand.
1. Create your Printify account
Creating your Printify account is very easy. Head over to the Printify website homepage and click the sign-up button.
It is completely free to sign up for an account and you only pay a fee when you actually make a sale.
Once you’re on your dashboard, you’ll be prompted with a store checklist by Printify. You will need to complete this checklist to get your profile all set up.

2. Choose a Niche
Even before you think of creating your print-on-demand store with Printify and Canva, you need to pick a niche.
Think of any successful e-commerce brand that you know of, they most likely aren’t Jacks of all trades, then you shouldn’t be either.
You need to pick a niche for your store and stick with it.
You need your store to be a one-stop shop for a particular group of individuals.
Remember, when you try to sell to everyone, you end up selling to no one.
That said, there are so many high-potential niches that you could try out for your store and the possibilities are endless.
In a nutshell, there are three types of niches you can choose for your print-on-demand store.
A. Evergreen Niches:
These niches are relevant all year round and can bag you daily sales round the clock. Think of ideas that customers search for irrespective of what time of the year it is.
Some good examples of evergreen niches include:
- Pets
- Occupations
- Hobbies
While evergreen niches can help you build a sustainable business, you need to understand that most of these niches are quite saturated.
So always look for sub-niches in these evergreen niches if you decide to go down this route.
B. Trending Niches
These niches come and go but while that’s a huge con, they are perfect for beginners.
Since there are trending niches popping up all year round, it’s almost impossible to run out of inspiration for new products in your store.
The key to making money with trending niches is to keep your ears to the ground and be one of the first brands to capitalize on a trend.
Since the trend would most likely be fresh, you will only have little competition to deal with.
A good way to find new trendy niches is to use GOOGLE TRENDS.

Quick hack: Quotes from these trendy niches always do well, so look out for these.
C. Holiday Niches
These niches are quite obvious. They come every year and last for a short period of time. The goal is to make the most sales possible within that period.
Some good examples of holiday niches include:
- Christmas
- Halloween
- Teacher’s day
3. Create your online store
Once you’ve decided on the types of designs you’re going to be creating, the next step is to build your online store.
Printify makes this so easy as they integrate with a number of easy-to-set-up store builders
Some of the best places to set up your store with Printify include:

- Ebay
- Etsy
- Shopify
- Squarespace
- Wix
- Woocommerce
While Etsy and eBay have hundreds of millions of monthly visitors, you don’t own your audience and from my experience, you can get kicked out of their marketplace for no good reason.
So in my opinion, building your own store on woo commerce using WordPress is the best option.
For example, we have our e-commerce store hosted on Woo-commerce and we love every bit of it.
Some people say Shopify is the better option but I agree to disagree.
While Shopify is so easy to set up and perfect for beginners, there are some cons that people don’t share that often.
Shopify Vs WooCommerce
Shopify | WooCommerce |
The basic plan costs $32 per month | Woocomerce is FREE but you need WordPress which costs $9 Per Month |
Most functional plugins have expensive paid plans | There are so many free plugins on WordPress |
The free themes on Shopify are way to basic | The free themes on Shopify are way too basic |
That said, here’s how you can build your eCommerce store using Woocommerce.
Head over to Bluehost to buy your domain name and hosting (This is the service we use and highly recommend)
We use the Basic plan which costs $2.95.

Guess what? You get a free domain name on your first purchase using this plan. Sign up for your hosting and domain name now.
Once you have all that set up, log in to WordPress dashboard and start designing your site.
Depending on how you want your store to look, you will need to choose specific themes.
We use the NEVE theme but trust me there are many more aesthetic themes you can use on your site.

Most themes come with already-made pages, and all that’s left to do is tweak and customize to suit your branding.
Once you have your website, you will need to install the Woocommerce plugin to add e-commerce functionality to your site.
Head over to the plugins tab on your website and install Woocomerce.

4. Connect your Printify account to your store
Once you’ve built out your store on Woocommerce, the next step is to connect it to Printify.
As I said earlier, this is so easy to do using the steps outlined below.
On your dashboard, select ADD NEW STORE.

Then select WOOCOMMERCE as your store choice.

Then CONNECT your STORE as directed by PRINTIFY.

5. Creating your designs
With Everything set up, it’s time to start pumping out designs.
Remember quality is key to the success of this business and you should only create designs that you would buy yourself.
To create our print-on-demand designs, we will be using Canva.
Canva has a huge library of design templates that you can edit and use for your own artwork. You might need to learn the basics of how can Canva works, but that shouldn’t be a problem.
The main deal in making this business a success is in finding ideas for designs that actually sell.
It’s one thing to create your designs and it’s another thing to have them sell and make you money.
So instead of hopping right onto Canva to create a bunch of random designs, there’s one step you should never skip.
Research, research, research.
You need to make sure you do your due diligence and find out what designs are selling.
Depending on the niche you’ve chosen it might be selling easy or difficult to find best-selling designs to replicate for your store.
How to find design ideas for Print on Demand
That said, here are some of the best ways to find design ideas for your store.
1. Pinterest:
Type a seed keyword like “dog t-shirt” interest and see what designs pop up.
Take note of the keywords included in their titles as you would need to optimize your product listings.
2. ChatGpt:
Using AI software like ChatGPT, you could type in your niche and ask it to generate a list of product design ideas for your niche.
This strategy is particularly powerful if you plan on selling plain t-shirts with quotes on them.
3. Etsy
Etsy is another excellent way to find proven ideas for your products.
Focus on finding best-selling designs on Etsy, that way you know there’s a market for your product.
How to use Canva for print on demand
The power in using Canva for print on demand is in how easy it is to learn the basics and also in their insane library of free but aesthetic templates to edit and use.
The key to unique and aesthetic designs with Canva is in the steps outlined below.
1. Create your free Canva account.
Canva is completely free to use and I bet you already have an account, so if you’re new to this software then you will need to create your own account as well.
Canva also offers a pro plan and while this isn’t compulsory, I highly recommended it for print-on-demand.
Here are some Canva Pro features that will come in really handy for creating amazing print-on-demand designs

- Transparent background: This feature will allow you to download your designs in their transparent background, that way you can have them uploaded on products of any color.
- Unlimited Content: Canva has hundreds of millions of elements and fonts that will be particularly helpful for creating unique designs for your products
To mention but a few of its amazing features.
Don’t worry, if you ever feel skeptical about paying for a subscription on Canva, you can always sign up for the free 30-day trial and test out these features before you commit to a subscription.
2. Explore the library for something similar to your idea
If you followed along with this tutorial, you most definitely have a list of design ideas that you plan on replicating.
The key word here is not creating a Replica of what already exists, instead, you should work on replicating those ideas with a twist.
As a beginner, you will most likely find it difficult to create a design from scratch, so feel free to explore Canva’s template library for a similar design to your idea.

Now for the twist, you need to get creative.
One trick that always works for unique designs from a basic template on Canva is switching up the fonts, graphics, and colors.
Here’s how I find insane design resources to work with.
1. Canva Pro:
Canva has a huge library of elements that go well on products, just search their elements library to find what sticks
Remember you have a 30-Day free trial for Canva waiting for you by the way.
2. Creative Fabrica:
While Canva is a complete beast for finding aesthetic elements for your designs, there’s a huge downside to using these elements.
Just like you, there are over 100 million people also using Canva for the same cause and since you won’t be creating your designs from scratch, it can be very hard to stand out from the crowd with your brand.
That’s where Creative Fabrica comes in. With a library full of over 7 million aesthetic elements and design resources made by real artists, you have nothing to fear.
Heck, they even run massive discounts every other day and the one I’m most happy about is their $1 All access trial.
You just need to pay $1 and that’s it. For 30 days, you will have access to their entire library of design resources.

Sounds wild right? I tried it out and I can only say that Creative Fabrica is the best.
If you have $1 and would also love to enjoy unlimited access to Creative Fabrica for 30 days, you should sign up for your account now.
6. Upload your designs on Printify
Once your designs are ready, it’s time to upload them onto Printify.
As expected, this shouldn’t be hard.
Select the MY PRODUCT tab on your dashboard.

Then BROWSE through the product catalog on Printify and select the product you want to sell.

Once you find a product you’d like to sell, upload your design file and hit publish,
If you connected your store to your Printify dashboard, your product will automatically show up on your store.
Feel free to switch up the pricing of your products to increase your margins.
7. Start marketing your new product line
Depending on where you’ve chosen to sell your designs, you will need to think about marketing to make this business works.
If you chose Woocomerce, then here’s how you can market your store to get sales and traffic.
A. SEO
This is one of the best options for marketing a print-on-demand store.
SEO stands for search engine optimization. this strategy involves optimizing your product listings to show up on the search results for a particular keyword.
You will basically be from the largest search engine in the world, GOOGLE.
This means whenever a potential customer actively searches for your product, you still stand the chance of showing up in the search results and getting the click.
This is the definition of passive income from passive traffic.
At the start, this won’t be quite passive because it takes time to rank your website on Google but once you get the ball rolling, it’s sweet income from there onwards.
If you are serious about SEO, then you need to check out this SEO guide.
B. Pinterest
Pinterest works quite like SEO because it’s in itself a search engine.
Pinterest has hundreds of millions of monthly active users and the demographic on this platform is people who are actively looking to buy something.
If you can get your Pinterest pins to show up on the search results, that’s once again a free source of passive traffic for your store.
C. TikTok
While TikTok is flooded with a lot of teens mindlessly scrolling for hours, its viral potential makes it a perfect platform for marketing your store.
Remember attention is the new currency and right now TiK ToK is the best place to go viral especially as a complete beginner.
You might need to learn how to create natural and relatable content to market your product but that’s where the line is drawn.
Once you nail your content strategy and learn what makes for a viral video, the whole process becomes easy and replicable.
